No more pity parties

enough2

We’ve all done it.

We’ve all stuffed ourselves with ice cream that’s been mixed with our tears after a breakup.

We’ve all felt like we’ve been dragged into the depths of despair (Anne Shirley style) after failing a test.

We’ve all felt insanely stupid after putting ourselves (and our feelings) out there just one more time.ย

We’re all to blame. Each and every one of us. It doesn’t matter how much pity was involved, but we’ve all attended the party.

And I don’t know about everyone else, but I’d rather not accept any more invitations.

Now, before you think I’m being too cheesy, take a minute and try to remember a time when you felt worthless. It could have been ten years ago, and it could have been two days ago. It could have been for any reason. Did you deserve to feel like you had zero worth?

We’ve all made mistakes. And yes, we do deserve to truly feel the weight of such mistakes more often than not. It’s part of a process.

However, we need to remember too that the worth of our souls are still great in the eyes of the Lord.

If only we could see ourselves the same way the Lord does each and every day, no matter how worthless we are feeling.

And whether you are the one who needs to forgive or the one who needs to be forgiven, know that you are still enough. And you are most definitely enough when you are simply down and haven’t made a mistake.

Sometimes those are simply the times we feel the worst. You haven’t done anything wrong. As long as you have stayed true to yourself and fought for what you felt and knew you deserved, then pick yourself up, dear friend.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a post “it didn’t work out” chick flick marathon and chocolate binge just as much as the next girl, but I don’t enjoy the self-loathing that can sometimes come with it.

What do forgiveness, confidence, sappy movies and bad calories all have in common?

They are choices.

Choices that we have the privilege of making.

So next time a boy doesn’t text you back, you don’t get that dream job, you make a mistake, your heart gets broken into a million irreplaceable pieces or whatever your demons might have in store for you, remember you have a choice.

Accept or reject.
